Finally dry

Dana and I are pretty much dry now – having enjoyed a thorough soaking at the hands of captain Mike on the Niagara river this afternoon (tickets courtesy of Monika). I’ve gone 4 times now and it never fails to entertain. Dana had a trip I think she won’t soon forget. Happy birthday Dana

Centreville (Toronto’s Centre Island)

We had a very enjoyable trip to Centre Island yesterday and I took copious quantities of photos. Dana had her hand at it to – she seems to enjoy it. You can check out select photos over at my flickr photostream. If you have younger kids you owe it to yourself to visit

ssh tab completion

One of the great things about OSX is the underlying unix environment. I regularly use terminal.app to ssh, ftp, and whatnot. Today I stumbled upon this tip for adding tab completion to the ssh command – simply add the following to  your .bash_profile and now ssh can tab complete using the list of known hosts [...]

Vacation away

Ok, so I’m embarking on a 2 week vacation and making a conscious effort (yet again) to do as little ‘work’ as possible. I’m going to be taking a few day trips to center island, Parry Sound, … and plan on putting my new camera to work. To that end I’ve added a link to [...]

Star Wars Canteen

Eddie Izzard cracks me up! God love the brits!!!!

Datacase – file store/view app for iphone.

I stumbled up on this possible gem: In essence it makes your iphone (or ipod touch) into a wireless drive to which you can drag and drop files from your Mac’s finder (or Linux or windoz) via afp, ftp, http, bonjour and then view them (natively?) on the iphone ! Something I’m looking forward to [...]

HFH – Heat From Humans

My wife and I were talking about this just the other day – ie the amount of heat generated by all the roads in the world and how maybe it’s contributing to global warming. Leave it to those crafty Dutch to find a way of harvesting the heat in asphalt: This article goes on to [...]

PicLens – masterful image browsing

I have to give credit for this find to Mike R (and probably half a billion other people) but I’ve just installed the PicLens plug-in for Firefox. What a cosmic work of brilliance!!!! I often find myself searching for images for presentations and such and with PicLens this is going to be sooooo much easier [...]

Presenting at Openworld

Well my submission to Oracle Mix may not have been picked up but we’ve been invited to co-present with Dell on what is in essence the same material. If you’re fortunate enough to attend and haven’t yet been bored to tears by previous presentations I’ve given on our Banner on RAC on Linux proof-of-concept then [...]
